Collection policy

The collection policy of the Heino Art Foundation includes management, preservation and research relating to the art collections owned by the Foundation as well as the promotion of collection accessibility. Collections are accrued through donations made to the Foundation as well as acquisitions. Decisions on the receipt of art donations and acquisition of works are made by the Board of Directors.

The Heino Art Foundation has been built upon the collection donated by Raimo and Raini Heino and their son, gallerist Rauli Heino, as well as the Heino graphic art collection, donated to the foundation in autumn 2015. Spanning from the 1950s to the 2010s, the collection consists of 1 416 paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and media works from 223 artists. The graphic art collection comprises 264 works from 46 artists.

The underlying principle of the collection activities of the Heino Art Foundation is to ensure the preservation of the collections and the accrual of art historical knowledge relating to the history of the collection and the works of art. All works included in the Heino Art Foundation collection are documented and catalogued in compliance with museum professional practice.

The Heino Art Foundation organises exhibitions based on its collections and lends works of art to other exhibition organisers in and outside Finland. Art lending seeks to promote cooperation between art organisations and improve collection visibility and awareness of the collections. Decisions on exhibition loans are made by the Board of Directors of the Foundation. Access to the collections is also advanced through the production of publications and provision of information about the collection via the Foundation's website.
